“Have used Roots Magic for many years. I am pleased with version 9 apart from one problem. I am struggling to work out how to colour code. I have always only used it to use blue for male and red for female on the direct line of ascendants, and not their other children. As I am in my 80s perhaps I am just not understanding the system. Have used S&N for several things over the years - brilliant company”

“Recommended as I was looking for a Tree tool outside "Ancestry" which I have used for a number of years as I wanted to check for record duplications, addresses, etc. RootsMagic is helping me with this aspect of my family tree work, however, I would love to have a clear set of instructions and examples - FAQs are not fantastic, and examples in YouTube may answer the question but you need to trawl through the whole session!! Otherwise and although it is still early days it seems to be a great product....just would like a little clearer support”

“I have only just been able to spend a bit of time getting familiar with this new programme, so far it is GREAT, many of the functions seem to flow easier than previously. So far so good, lots more to learn but it is proving very user friendly and encouraging to do more research.”

“After extended publicity before the release of RootsMagic 8, I am disappointed that the new version 9 was introduced without much/any publicity. I purchased version 8 in November and with version 9 released just three months later I feel I now have an old outdated version.”

“I'm finding the instructions a bit complicated. The cross checking with Ancestry is a good way to find duplicates and errors in dates but means I have to write United Kingdom on nearly every entry a bit tiresome as my research is based in the UK.”

“I found the software easy to install, but guidance lacking on the operation of the software when the first steps of getting the tree organised what then so many gaps with the systems help, it becomes trial and error eventually to arrive at the operation to either move onto or fill in the section working on or in.”

“I find that it works well and so far does what I am looking for. However it has a learning curve which I am following. Links to say Ancestry take some working out and I have yet to do so.”
